Hi Charles,
Many thanks for your reply.
Your RoadHawk Ride should not be recording anything other that 5 minute files, on a constant loop. And there certainly should not be a delay between files. I took the liberty of testing one prior to typing this and every file was exactly 5 minutes and there was no delay between one file and the next, this was clearly shown in the time/date stamping on the files recorded. Please can you email support@roadhawk.co.uk with your details and we will resolve this immediately for you.
Best regards, RoadHawk

Hi Gary, and thank you for your comments. All things considered, I still recommend the Road Hawk for good value, however, I'd like to respond to some of your comments with one special advisory.
You say in the above reply that the camera is compatible with Mac, but as we've already learnt, ONLY when you download a programme such as VLC - but that's in your handbook, so no real problem. I don't really want to have the camera recalled as it performs well enough, and I'm quite happy with it, but regarding the delay: One of my lads accidentally rode into the back of me at a roundabout and came off. Rather than block the road, I continued to the first exit to stop, dismount, set the bike on its stand and run back to my lad who, I saw still lying on the road with his bike on top of him. The camera was still rolling, but had cut off within a second of the accident. It must have been a good twenty seconds later that the recording began again - as I discovered when viewing the footage. In later segments (different date), I noticed that the footage segments were normally less than four minutes (typically three and a half). So, without question, I'm losing perhaps up to two minutes of video, through delay and/or short segments. From that point of view, one prays that, in the event of an incident, one hopes the camera is recording rather than missing an important time element. For now, I can live with that, although I don't like it.
With regard to the adhesive mount, I did say that that I had ensured a fully clean surface before applying the sticky pad. On close inspection, I note that the 3M tape is absolutely and firmly stuck on the helmet, but has come off the foam pad - so there is a definite problem there that should not have occurred. This would be a 3M problem rather than Road Hawk's, but my concern is that other bikers may suddenly find they've lost their camera for the same reason - the tape holds well to the helmet, but is not performing as it should on the pad. My pad is clean as a whistle with the tape now off. I've resolved the situation by now attaching a fine safety chain fitted to the inside of the helmet AND, of course, to the mount, which is something I should not have had to do. You're not likely to say if this problem has occurred before, but I would suggest you have a word with 3M to see if they can correct the matter.

As for waterproof endcap: All I can say is, "This is Wales"! The time/date stamp? Sod it; it will do!!!

In spite of what might appear to be my negative comments, I like the camera and will continue to use it, as I don't
believe there is a better-value comparison on the market. perhaps, when I have dosh to spare, I'll go in for something more expensive! Anyway, just take the 3M issue on board, because it IS rather an important one.

Thanks again,

Hi Charles,
Many thanks for taking the time to give us feedback on your RoadHawk Ride camera and I am sorry to hear that you have some concerns with the system you have purchased.
Our support team is available via email (support@roadhawk.co.uk) or over the phone (01208 269 159) and we will happily answer any concerns immediately with you.
In response to your comments: the RoadHawk Ride records video only and therefore does not require any specialist software to playback footage. It is compatible with both Mac and PC, therefore you do not need to use Windows OS on your Mac. The video footage should be seamless when recording and saving in 5 minute file segments, if you are experiencing a delay please contact us on the details above for us to recall and assess the system. Unfortunately editing software will also be required to edit video footage for any camera system on the market, however we will happily recommend after-market editing software to suit your needs.
The RoadHawk Ride mounts are 3M VHB adhesive pads, the same adhesive pads used by all leading helmet camera brands on the market, and provide a solid hold, only removable by force (and aided by a hair dryer to soften the adhesive bond). When mounting the adhesive we would recommend ensuring the surface is clean and free of dirt, polish or any other substance that may effect the bonding. We would recommend tethering any helmet camera system to avoid any potential loss should the camera become dislodged from its mount.
The RoadHawk Ride is supplied with 2 end caps - one sealed allowing the camera to be waterproof to 10 metres, and a separate audio end cap with holes. Please can you ensure that the audio end cap is fitted. Once again, we will not hesitate to recall the camera if it is not functioning correctly.
If you are struggling to time/date stamp your RoadHawk Ride please follow the instructions on this very helpful video review from 5 mins 30 seconds, which outlines the process clearly and with full video instructions http://ow.ly/k8Lrm
I hope the above answers your comments. Please do not hesitate to contact our support team on 01208 269 159/support@roadhawk.co.uk to discuss this further or to request sending the camera back fro testing.
Best regards, RoadHawk

Hi, all you guys.
You may recall some difficulties I had when I bought my Roadhawk last December, but I thought I'd pass some comments on to you that may be of future help. As you might imagine, there are minus, as well as plus points, although I've left my most worry-some minus points to last.

Plus Points: Good video quality day and even at night. Simple to operate with or without gloves (once you learn the geography on your helmet!!!). Simple to download and recharge. Easy to remove the "bullet" for safekeeping away from the helmet. Excellent wide-angle coverage; I can see the rear in both mirrors, as well as the full dash. Good range of fittings that seem quite robust.
Minus points: I had fearsome problems trying to alter the date, and still can't get it right. Twice I got caught out at minor incidents going unrecorded, due entirely to the five-minute recording changeover, so would now prefer continuous recording. I use a Mac with Window as separate O/S, but hate having to use special download software to view. Additional software required to edit, which is a pain. So I feel the format could be changed to conform. Sound quality (at standstill & no wind) is worse than useless as it's impossible to hear what's being said - even when someone is talking to you directly in front.
Worst fear (as from this morning): Picked my helmet up (camera was already fitted onto its swivel mount), and noticed that the entire mount & camera had fallen off!! I didn't see until later, that it found its way behind the chair, and so thought it had come off on my previous ride. When I fitted the mounting in December, I made sure the helmet was as clean as I could get it, and once fitted, it held as firmly as a Scotsman with a Five-Pound note!! I now have two questions: (1) How has it managed to come off? If it came off whilst sitting peacefully on a chair, so what would have happened had I been riding on the bike? The answer to the latter is that I would have lost £150 worth of camera!!!
Fortunately, that did not happen, but it was a damn close-run thing!
There is now a final question: How can I ensure that the same thing won't happen again - maybe at a worse time?
You guys were most helpful with my early problems, but can you now give some advice, please?
I do have my very first attempt to use the camera, when one of my troupe adjusted it for me. It's interesting to note from that video, that the sound quality was extremely poor - not that I'm bothered on that score, but it would be advantageous to have clear sound in the event of some verbal altercation! You're quite welcome to have a copy of the footage (which I don't think even came up to five minutes. Thanks again, although from a quite disappointed Road Hawk user!

Most drivers won't get a dash cam unless their insurance company offers a discount. At the moment, only commercial insurers do so. Someone should get hold of that meerkat and tell him.
