The UK has been labelled the ‘whiplash capital of Europe’, and with 1,500 whiplash claims every day for even the most minor of accidents, it is easy to see why.
At a summit with the UK’s major insurers, David Cameron criticised the ‘compensation culture’ that currently exists and suggested better medical evidence and speed thresholds for claims were needed. The insurance industry has vowed to work with the Government to ensure appropriate guidance and measures are put into place and that the savings are passed directly to the customer.
Whiplash claims cost the insurance industry £2bn a year in compensation and add £90 to the average annual car insurance bill, which now averages £410.
