This heart-stopping dash cam footage shows the moment a driver led police on a high-speed car chase through a residential area before flipping his car.
The footage released by Warwickshire Police shows the black Ford Focus recklessly speeding round corners on a housing estate at over 50mph with a total disregard for other road users. At one point in the clip, the driver narrowly avoids a head-on collision with a white car when he turns into a side street.
The video then sees the police chase continue onto a country lane at speeds of 87mph when the driver loses control of the vehicle. The Focus hits a hedge resulting in the car being flipped.
The 20-year-old driver, Gareth Yorks, Rugby, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, using a motor vehicle without insurance and driving without a licence. He was sentenced to eight months in prison at Warwick Crown Court last Friday.
PC Rich Prior, of Warwickshire Operational Policing Unit, said: “I hope this video makes people stop and think about their actions and the potential risks they may cause to themselves and others.
“It clearly shows the lengths some people will go to while putting the lives of others at risk.
“I strongly urge everyone to make sure their paperwork and documentation is in order before they get behind the wheel of a car, and not to make a wrong decision that could have serious repercussions.”
