The RH-2 is uses the same internal electronics, GPS and shock sensors as the rest of the RoadHawk range of in car cameras. This is a two channel video recorder, it has both forward facing and inward facing cameras with wide angled lenses giving up to 310° all round surveillance.

The inward facing camera is supplied with a removeable Infra Red light bar to capture clear vivid images even at night making it the perfect choice for public transport or a taxi camera. A wired EMERGENCY remote controller is supplied. When the user pushes the button the RH-2 will store 3 minutes before and 3 minutes after the event.

Built-in G-Force sensors continually monitor for impacts at which point up to 3 minutes before and 1 minute after are stored on the SD memory card as an event that can later be used as evidence to support a claim.

The RH-2 is supplied with viewing software compatible with all versions of Windows (not MAC). The software reads the encrypted files from the SD card of the RH-2 and pulls data from Google Earth giving a realtime display of the vehcle's speed and position. This function works anywhere in the world and there are no subscription or on-going charges to pay.

Another useful function of the RH-2 is the ability to assign a name, driver or the vehicle registration mark to each unit. This is watermarked into the video making it much easier for large fleets looking to keep track of multiple vehicles.

Time and date is synchronised by GPS and the configuration has been simplified. The RH-2's plug and play nature allows it to be installed and in use in less than 5 minutes.

Each system is supplied with a 2gb Card (upgradeable to 16gb) which will hold around 90mins of video and data on a loop. When the card is full the unit starts to erase and overwrite the earliest data. A 2gb SD card can hold over 70 events such as SHOCK or EMERGENCY before they start to be overwritten.

A clear and concise manual with pictures to aid installation and operation is included as is a CD-ROM with the operating software and manual in PDF format. The software can be freely distributed and installed on an unlimited number of PC computers.

RH-2 Frequently asked questions.

How big is it?
The RH-2 hides nicely behind a rear view mirror. In most cases you will not see it from your driving position. Dimensions 70 x 100 x 40mm

Will it work outside of the UK?
The RH-2 does not contain any map data so you can use it anywhere in the world.
The map data is pulled from Google Earth.

Can it be hard wired to my car?
Yes, it can be hardwired. The plug that comes with the RH-2 has a regulator integrated in to it so this needs to be maintained. We sell a female socket adapter kit that easily allows the RH-2 to be wired to your car's 12v supply.

How much current does it consume when recording?
About 250 mA peak during boot-up, and about 160 mA continuous when recording.  So a 12V/1.3 amp/hr sealed lead acid battery should run it for over 7 hours.  Enough for a day’s outdoor activity with an 8GB card fitted.

Where is the microphone, and what will it pick up?
Built into the underside of the front of the unit, so it picks up sound reflected from the windscreen.  It can record the driver’s voice, but not if there is background noise (stereo/music) as well.

When the accelerometer/Emergency button triggers recording, how long does the recording last?
As long as it has been set for in the recording duration box in the config dialogue. Usually a setting of 5 seconds before and 15 seconds after is more than adequate. This can be set in the supplied software up to 5 minutes.

In continuous recording mode, how long is the longest recorded file?
1 minute.  The software allows you to select multiple files and play them back as one continuous sequence.

How often is the GPS position updated?
About once every 1.5 seconds.

What’s the Alarm for, and how does it work?
It’s the beep that says the accelerometer has triggered the recording of a new file.  This interrupts normal recording and can lead to having lots of little files. If you are getting a lot of event triggers then you will need to adjust the sensitivity in the settings menu of the software.

How do I delete therecorded files I no longer need?
With the card installed in a PC card reader, just delete them like any other file.

I put a brand new card in, and it took ages to start up.  When it did, the settings were all wrong.  What happened?
New cards need to have system software written to them before they can be used.  This takes 15 seconds or so.  The system software has default settings which may not be what you want.  To update this, record at least one video file; remove the card and alter the configuration in a PC.  Then when you replace the card in the RoadHawk, it will start up with your revised configuration.

How can I put a marker in a sequence of continuously-recorded files, so I can find the interesting bits easily?
Press the Emergency button on the side of the RoadHawk or by pressing the emergency remote button  Three things will happen:

1. The file currently being recorded is immediately stopped.
2. An Emergency Event file is created containing video of the period before and after the button was pressed, and then…
3. Continuous recording resumes with a new file.

In this way, you can force a new file to be started when you want it.  Handy if you don’t want the next few minutes of video to be interrupted by the break between files.

I want to swap files with a mate who also has a RoadHawk RH-2.  What do I need to send?
You need to send the  files of the times/events you want to share.  Because the files are each quite small, they can be attached to emails without problems.
The recipient will need to put them into a folder on their PC. They can download the RoadHawk software on this site to view the video files you have sent.
